Methodology
Japan Answers tools are planning estimates. Official operator, hotel, and booking-platform terms always override a calculator result.
Source hierarchy
- Current official operator or property pages for the exact service or room type.
- Industry associations and national tourism guidance for planning context.
- Booking-platform listings for inventory language travelers actually see.
- Editorial comparison assumptions stated on the page (for example room-space comfort thresholds).
How calculator defaults are chosen
Defaults are starting points for common trip shapes, not forecasts. Replace them with your dates, party size, live quotes, and measured bag dimensions. Formulas are shown on each tool page so the math can be inspected without JavaScript.
Family hotel screening
Baggage and rail rules
Dimension thresholds and reservation requirements come from operator guidance cited on the tool or guide. Locker “fit” tests rectangular dimensions only; door openings, hinges, and availability are not checked. Luggage forwarding timing uses the carrier’s quoted lead time plus an explicit buffer.
Review cadence
Guides and tools show an editorial review date when available. Prices, schedules, eligibility, child categories, and hotel policies can change without notice. Recheck official sources before booking, especially around holidays and rule updates.
Affiliate separation
If a link can earn a commission, it should be labeled and use appropriate link attributes. Calculator math and pass/fail screens do not depend on compensation. See the affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
If a statement is wrong or outdated, send the page URL, the exact claim, a current official source, and the date checked via the corrections page.
